Freedom & Democracy
for a Price

Written by Carrie Lever.
"The heroic fight of thousand of young men and women has
played a crucial role in the events that ultimately led to the collapse
of communism in Eastern Europe and in the former Soviet Union. The
fight for Freedom and Democracy became unstoppable after June 1989.
www.christusrex.org on Tianimen Square Riots
(January 2005) I remember studying 2005 and thinking to myself,
Wow, 2005 is nothing like 2006! I was seeing historical
moments brewing all 2005, but really 2006 would carry the brunt
of historical climaxes. (April 29, 2006. ABC. United States-Iran
relations continue to deteriorate after US officials called Iran
one of the world's most active sponsors of terrorism, as IAEA reveals
that Tehran has successfully enriched uranium and is racing ahead
with its nuclear programme. Iran says it does not "give a damn"
about the verdict from the IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei and what
it might lead to.)
There will be culminating events that fight for human rights that
cost. Treaties and laws for world peace will be on the political
tables around the globe. They will offer critical turning points
for a freer world. This is a year where the struggles for equalities,
democracy and human rights move forward with a price. There
will be religious and moral overtones.
(February16, 2006, MSMBC. In Libya, at least eleven protesters are
killed in riots protesting the Muhammad cartoons in Tripoli outside
the Italian consulate in Benghazi. And, NY Times. Russian authorities
order the closing of a Volgograd newspaper that published a cartoon
of Prophet Muhammad.)(February 18, BBC. Italian reform minister
Roberto Calderoli resigns after criticism for wearing a T-shirt
depicting the cartoons. The incident triggered yesterday's rioting
outside the Italian consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in which at least
10 people died. And, CNN, Sixteen people are killed in northern
Nigeria as demonstrators protest the cartoons by storming and burning
Christian churches and businesses.) (April 9, 2006. BBC. Ethnic
conflict in Sri Lanka: a claymore mine explodes in northern Jaffna,
killing 5 soldiers on patrol and 2 civilians working for the Caritas
Internationalis aid agency.) (May 1, 2006. NPR. Chinese Patriotic
Catholic Association outraged Vatican by planning to ordain another
bishop, Liu Xinhong in Anhui Province. On Sunday, China has already
ordained Ma Yinglin, not approved by the Holy See, as a bishop in
Yunnan. Hong Kong Cardinal Joseph Zen urged the Vatican to stop
diplomatic talks with China.)(May 9, 2006. BBC. The United Kingdom's
new Minister for Local Government, Ruth Kelly, who is a Roman Catholic
and a member of Opus Dei, refuses to state whether or not she believes
that homosexuality is a sin.)
Of course, the idea of being pragmatic may be a problem under these
influences. It's like the 'sky is the limit', but keep one foot
on the ground!
(February 20, 2006. Reuters. Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr
Mottaki denies that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that
he wanted Israel to be "wiped off the map," saying Ahmadinejad
was misunderstood.) (March 4, 2006. Anti-war campaigners criticised
British Prime Minister Tony Blair after he suggested his decision
to go to war in Iraq would ultimately be judged by God.) (April
6, 2006. New York Sun. Orthodox Jews in Boro Park in New York City
continue to protest after a 75-year-old Hasidic man was beaten and
arrested by police for talking on a cell phone while driving. NYPD
Chief Joseph Esposito allegedly cursed out the protestors in anti-Semitic
terms, resulting in condemnations and calls for him to step down.)
(August 2006. CNN. Mel Gibson anti-semetic verbage upon DUI surrounding
Lebanese- Israel War time-frame.)
This year has it's seeds planted long ago in the years 1966,
1988-89, 1998 and 2000. This is a year that humanity can reap the
rewards with the efforts from those who struggled before us. This
means that there will be significant strides made in political agendas
and climaxes for all cultures. I do not say this lightly. There
is a chain of causation that is about to come together with themes
of democracy around the world. A good example is the current Iraq
elections. Every one of these actions will be met with reaction.
If the eyesores and heartaches were not so obvious, the motivation
would not exist as it does in 2006. It is a year of culminating
ideologies that make changes to the old and worn out ways.
This is a year for a global humanitarian call where minority
and the impoverished rights cry out. (March 9, 2006. BBC.
United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan launches the Central
Emergency Response Fund to provide aid to regions of Africa currently
facing starvation.) (April 8, 2006. BBC. The World Health Organization
announces that the average life expectancy of Zimbabweans has declined
to 37 years for men and 34 years for women.)(April 30, 2006. CNN.
The Sudanese government accepts a peace plan brokered by mediators
of the African Union.)
There are many heartaches and stories of struggle. Africa is a continent
of growing genocide, famine, disease and death. There is much work
to be done and 2006 is a astrological year where many strides can
be won for humanity. (February 16, 2006. AllAfrica.com. Oxfam
reports hundreds of thousands are affected by severe water shortages
in Kenya and Somalia. Also, Tens of thousands of refugees are homeless
in the Western Sahara after rains wiped out their shelters.)
(March 8, 2006. Alternet. The Government of Chad renews accusations
of Sudanese support for attacks by the UFDC into eastern Chad, despite
the recent signing of the Tripoli Accord and the successful formation
of the ministerial committee. Sudan has accused Chad of supporting
ARFWS rebels in the past, and Chad is believed to have stepped up
support in light of recent attacks.) (March 31, 2006. Reuters. Chadian
senior army commander Abakar Itno is assassinated by a joint force
of Janjaweed, Rally for Democracy and Liberty, and Sudanese military
forces.) (April 8, 2006. AlterNet. The United Front for Democratic
Change has attacked and gained control of the cities of Haraze Mangueigne,
Am Timan, and Abou-Deia, in Chad. Their initial attack came from
northern Central African Republic with the help of the Military
of Sudan. This is the largest and most successful attack since the
start of the Chadian-Sudanese conflict despite taking only an hour,
with only four men injured and none killed because the Chadian military
has either fled or refused to fight the rebels.)(May 16, 2006. BBC.
Darfur conflict: The United Nations Security Council votes unanimously
to initiate the process which would lead to a UN peacekeeping force
relieving the beleaguered African Union peacekeepers in the war-torn
Darfur region of Sudan. The Government of Sudan opposes the move.)
China's leaders are in for some hardships with their business and
political leadership. North Korea boundaries are weak. Will their
be another war toward global democracy? (February 11, 2006.
The Telegraph. United States military strategists reportedly are
developing plans for a possible major military bombing campaign
against Iranian nuclear sites as a "last resort" in the
event that diplomatic efforts fail to convince Iran to voluntarily
end what Western governments consider to be efforts at acquiring
a nuclear weapon. )
When the Soviet Union collapsed, it left many countries to
begin to define who and what they were to stand for. Not only does
this include the European countries like Ukraine, Yugoslavia, Poland,
and The Czech Republic that we hear about, but also places rather
foreign to most Americans. Like, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan. As my Ukrainian friend put it, "We
were all under the Soviet rule, but we were so different. Ukraine
was more open society and places like Uzbekistan were very closed."
Two thousand and six will be growth for these countries and their
ideology, as well. (March 20, 2006. BBC. The UN's refugee
agency, the UNHCR, says it has been ordered to leave Uzbekistan
within one month. As well, Belarusian presidential election, 2006:
Alexander Lukashenko has been re-elected president of Belarus with
82.6 percent of all votes, in an election which is considered by
many to have been rigged. ) (August 21, 2006. RFE/RL. The government
of Kyrgyzstan warns that the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, a terrorist
group affiliated with al Qaeda, and other militant Islamic groups,
are preparing to attack southern cities like Osh. )
Domestically, it has been said that the second term of a sitting
president is a curse. America leaves 2005 with a lot of enemies
and a weak world image. Financially we are in for
hard times. A terror attack stateside could happen in 2005, early
in 2006. Secrets of the nation, secret services, prisoners and hospitals
have likely been high on the list. (The Guradian. February
2, 2006. A leaked memo in the UK, detailing a conversation between
U.S. President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair
in 2003, has revealed that Blair intended to follow the US into
Iraq even without a UN resolution, and that Bush considered provoking
a response from Iraq using falsely marked Lockheed U-2 spy planes
to provide an excuse for war.) (March 10, 2006. BBC. More than 250
medical experts sign a letter in The Lancet urging the United States
to stop force-feeding of Guantanamo Bay detainees and close down
the prison.) (March 26, 2006. BBC. Voters in Ukraine go to the polls
to elect a new Verkhovna Rada (parliament).) (April 9, 2006. Buffalo
News. Scooter Libby says U.S. President George W. Bush okayed leaks
of secret CIA intelligence material.) (Associated Press, August
18, 2006. DETRIOT. A federal judge decision's to strike down President
Bush's warrantless surveillance program was the first ruling over
its legality, but surely not the last.) (Reuters, August
18, 2006. WASHINGTON. President George W. Bush will wrap up conferring
with his economic team on Friday on ways to keep the economy growing
against a backdrop of higher interest rates, mixed data and fears
of rising inflation.) (Reuters , August 17, 2006. WASHINGTON.
Amid a largely bleak picture in Iraq, President Bush received an
update on the security situation from top commanders on Thursday
and the White House said "huge challenges" remain.)
It is also said that second term presidents are likely go for
the history books. I would have to say that the stars are in George
W. Bush's favor on this one because 2006 is about historical turning
points in the fight toward democracy. The only problem is that he
is not likely to have the power and money to do what he wants to
do. (March, 8 2006. Houston Chronicle. The United States
House Appropriations Committee votes to block the Bush administration's
plan for Dubai Ports World to take over operations at six major
U.S. ports.) ( March 19, 2006. BBC. Former Prime Minister
of Iraq Iyad Allawi says that he believes that Iraq is engaged in
a civil war, although the country has not passed "the point
of no return." British and American officials dispute calling
the conflict a civil war.) (April 19, 2006. BBC. White House Press
Secretary Scott McClellan announces his resignation. Karl Rove is
expected to lose his position as Deputy Chief of Staff for political
development. President George W. Bush tries to shake up his cabinet
because of the mid-term elections in November.)
His agenda speaks loud and clear in 2006. He wants to pull troops
out of Iraq, partially privatize Social Security, make tax cuts
permanent, hold teachers, schools and athletes more accountable,
allow illegal immigrants to work in this country, and change tort
reform. For the most part, the stars are on his side for creating
a freer and more democratic world. Nevertheless, he can expect a
reaction, once again. Overall, a very busy year in Washington with
all of Bush's plans.
Here are some questions that come to my mind given the astrological
data. How will the United Nations get involved in 2006? (August,
2006. Israel- Lebanon Crisis) (February 16, 2006.
BBC. A United Nations report condemns the continued existence of
Camp Delta, and multiple breaches of Human Rights by the US.). The
UN says that prisoners held there should be immediately charged
or released. Like many other countries that the UN Human Rights
watchdog has heavily criticised, the US has attacked the report
as invalid.) (March 15, 2006. Reuters. uk.The United Nations General
Assembly votes to establish the United Nations Human Rights Council,
a new human rights organization to replace the United Nations Commission
on Human Rights, with only the United States, Israel, the Marshall
Islands and Palau opposing.) (July 7, 2006. Guardian. Japan circulates
a new United Nations Security Council draft resolution including
the threat of sanctions against North Korea.)
What kind of humanitarian movements will change the course of
history? (February 28, 2006. CNN. Congolese government forces
and United Nations peacekeepers (part of the MONUC mission) engage
militia fighters in the wartorn Ituri district in a battle to retake
the town of Tchei. The operation is in conjunction with a more aggressive
disarmament policy by the U.N. peacekeepers in the region.)
(March 17, 2006. The International Crisis Group warns that continued
neglect of the Darfur conflict may lead to thousands more deaths
and spill over into neighboring countries, further destabilizing
the region.) (March 19 2006. Reuters. With the exception of Uganda
and South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa is failing to meet United Nations
standards for accessibility to clean water or sanitation.)
What acts within governments will create a freer and more democratic
existence? (March 29, 2006. BBC. Former Liberian President
Charles Taylor is captured after disappearing in Nigeria and is
extradited to Sierra Leone.) (April 4, 2006. TIME. Former Majority
Leader Tom DeLay announces his resignation from the United States
House of Representatives.)
How will paranoia and fear seep into government acts all over
the world? (February 11, 2006. In the United States, it
has been revealed that the White House knew of extensive flooding
of New Orleans in the hours after Hurricane Katrina struck last
August. Michael Brown, the former head of the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA), told a Senate Committee that he informed
the White House of the seriousness of the situation at a time when
even the media weren't fully aware of the extent of the flooding.
ABC news)
What other leaders or dictators will fall? (February
13, 2006. BBC. In a televised address to the nation, Kenyan President
Mwai Kibaki announces the resignations of two government ministers
in connection with two separate corruption scandals, the "Goldenberg"
and "Anglo Leasing" affairs. Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi
and education minister George Saitoti both deny any wrongdoing.)
( February 14, Pacific Magazine. Tongan Prime Minister Prince Lavaka
Ata 'Ulukalala resigns suddenly on 11 February 2006, and also gives
up his other cabinet portfolios. He was replaced in the interim
by the elected Minister of Labour, Dr. Feleti Sevele.) (
Feb 14, 2006, BBC. Kenyan Police instruct 20 leading figures not
to leave the country as investigations into two corruption scandals,
the Goldenberg and Anglo Leasing scandals continue. Among the people
told to hand in their passports is George Saitoti whose resignation
as education minister was announced by President Mwai Kibaki yesterday.
Meanwhile, 80 Members of Parliament have demanded the resignation
of Deputy President Moody Awori, who is accused of involvement in
the Anglo Leasing affair.) (February, 18 2006. Al Jazeera. Ismail
Haniya of Hamas becomes Prime Minister of the Palestinian National
Authority, succeeding Ahmed Qurei.) (Ariel Sharon is in a coma.
May 4, 2006. BBC. In Israel, a new Cabinet under Prime Minister
Ehud Olmert is sworn in.) (May, 4, 2006. BBC. British Prime Minister
Tony Blair's Labour Party suffers one of its worst electoral defeats,
losing more than 200 councillors in the 2006 UK local elections,
and coming in third place in vote totals, behind both the Conservatives
and the Liberal Democrats.) (June 29, 2006. BBC. The cabinet Balkenende
II of the Netherlands resigns after a row between the coalition
partners about the citizenship of former MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali.) (August
2006, USA Today. Hugo Chávez states that Fidel Castro is
in a "great battle for life" but expresses optimism about
his recovery.)
Will there be more UFO sightings in 2006? How far has NASA come
to looking like a UFO? How will al Qaeda hit a financial institution?

in China? (April 23, 2006. Washington Post. Elections in
the Solomon Islands: Beijing begins to evacuate ethnic Chinese from
Solomon Islands following Anti-Chinese riots during the election

takes initial steps to use the States Secrets Privilege to block
a lawsuit against AT&T and the NSA brought by the Electronic
Frontier Foundation. The EFF has alleged that the government has
secret computer rooms conducting broad, illegal surveillance of
U.S. citizens.)
What stories will come out on world religion? Will we
be looking at a new pope? (Pope John Paul II passed on Februray
4, 2005 and Pope Benedict XVI has taken his place.) What
movies are due to be released? (June 9, 2006. Disney/Pixar's
new film Cars opens worldwide except in UK.) (Summer 2006. The Da
Vinci Code meets controversies.)

8, 2006. AFP. Three protesters are wounded and six buildings are
burned down in the fourth day of the pro-Democracy general strike
in Nepal against King Gyanendra.) (July 5, 2006. Palo Alto Online.
Three members of the Tongan royal family are killed in a car accident
in Menlo Park, California.)
Below, I have used history and current events in combination
to give the reader insight into the potential of 2006. Pay attention
to themes and the countries. They are likely to be in the news in
2006. The stories are just waiting to emerge. Today is January 31,
2005.
Echoes of 18th &
19th Centuries

Noted similar patterns to 2006 are found in 1756-57. 1765-67
1792-94, and 1872. These are all times of war for land and protest.
There is the French and Indian War, The Seven Years War, The American
Revolution, The French Revolution, the end of the Civil War, Japanese
Expansionism, and the end of the Viet Nam War- respectfully. All
of these wars required that their citizens served their country.
For example, during the French Revolution 'universal conscription'
is initiated in France. 'Universal Conscription" is another
word for 'the draft'.
Other key themes that come up from these dates were change in
icon structures and challenged establishment. It is the end of the
French monarchy. Louis the XVI is ousted and his wife Marie Antoinette
is executed. There exists terrorism against the French revolutionary
activities. "Reign of terror" lasts until Spring of 1794.
The inequalities of women stand out. There is Womens Suffrage
movement. Susan B. Anthony votes and is fined $100 which she never
pays. Victoria Woodall is the first woman to be nominated for the
United States Presidency. (March 11, 2006. BBC. Michelle
Bachelet takes office as the first female President of Chile.) (
March 31, 2006. Portia Simpson Miller is sworn in as Prime Minister
of Jamaica, becoming the first woman to lead the Commonwealth of
Jamaica.)
Echoes for 2006 from
the 20th Century

1926. Monarchies change. Queen Elizabeth is born April 4. Japanese
Expansionism. Afghanistan declares a monarchy rule. Lebanon becomes
a republic. There is the infamous coal miners strike in Britain
and martial law is declared. Spain leaves the League of Nations.
1946-7. Paranoia and a lot of legislation. I would like to add
one further example of what we can expect in 2006 that is found
in 1946-7. It encompasses the themes from 1966, 1997 and 2000, but
is a different era. (August 22, 2006. Bloomberg. The Iranian
Navy attacks and seizes control of a Romanian oil rig in the Persian
Gulf. Iran took control of the radio room at 7 AM local time. "The
Iranians fired at the rig's crane with machine guns," Tabanescu
said. "They are in control now and we can't contact the rig."
There were 26 workers onboard.)
We are in the days of the Cold War when Prime Minister Nehru
of India appeals to the United States and Russia to end nuclear
testing and to begin disarming. There is movement towards disarmament.
He says, "Such an act would save humanity from the ultimate
disaster." (wikipedia.com, 1946) ( March 24,2006. Reuters.
Pentagon: It is alleged by a report that Russia gave intelligence
information to Saddam Hussein's Iraq regarding American troop movements
during the early stages of the Iraq War.) (April 27, 2006. Guardian.
The head of the London Stock Exchange publicly warned the president
of Russia, Vladimir Putin, that his recent decision to bar the head
of a large equity fund from that country could send "a very
negative signal" to the world's equity markets.) (July 5, 2006.
ABC. China and Russia resist efforts by the United States and Japan
to move a motion in the United Nations Security Council to impose
sanctions on North Korea over its missile tests.) (July 5, 2006.
Washington Times. North Korea launches a 7th missile, despite earlier
condemnation of its earlier tests. One of the missiles landed "near
Russian territory." The U.N. Security Council has scheduled
an emergency meeting for Wednesday, and Japan warns of economic
sanctions against the country.)(July 6, 2006. Reuters. Taiwan plans
to test a missile capable of hitting mainland China. This has alarmed
the island's main ally, the United States.)
The American president, Harry Truman, officially proclaims an
end of hostilities of WWII. Truman is very active signing all kinds
of acts, laws into effect, e.g., Truman Doctrine to stop the spread
of communism; Marshall Plan is created as help while at the same
time politically motivated; he approves sending $400 million to
Turkey and Greece to stop communism; vetoes the Taft-Harley acted
because it put to many restrictions on labor unions (it is overturned);
he signs the Presidential Succession act placing the Speaker of
the House as next in line after the Vice President. Truman signs
the National Security Act that create the CIA, Department of Defense,
Joint Chief of Staff and the National Security Council. American
radio begins to broadcast into the Soviet Union. The Chinese Civil
War intensifies.
UNICEF is founded. United Nations has their first meeting in
Long Island. U.N. severs relation with Franco. There are the Nuremberg
Trials: Nuremberg was the founder of the Gestapo and recently convicted
Nazi war criminal. There are the Alcatraz prison riots. In Sweden,
there are over 2000 Phantom Rockets or unidentified flying objects
reported flying unusual maneuvers over Sweden.
There is a bit of communist paranoia going around that leads
to the Red Scare. On November 24, 1947, The House of
Representatives voted 346 to 7 to approve citations of contempt
of Congress against The Hollywood 10. Screen writers and Directors
were blacklisted after refusing to co-operate with the House of
Un-American Activities Committee over allegations of communist influence
in the movie industry. Marshall Plan is created as help for other
nations while at the same time politically motivated. (wikipedia.com,
1947.)
Princess Elizabeth announces her engagement to Phillip Mountbatten.
Later to be known as Queen Elizabeth. The first wall of Jerusalem
is built that creates a safe haven for the Jewish from Palestinians
and other Arabs. In Belgium, there is a female suffrage movement
whereas in Japan, they have just hired their first female police
officers. There is violence between the Hindus and the Muslims that
leave 3,000 dead. The International Monetary Fund begins to operate.
There is the Roswell incident in New Mexico involving a UFO sighting.
(wikipedia.com, 1946)
Importance of 1966,1988-9,1997,&
2000 for 2006

Astrologers look at history in terms of cycles. We have observed
these cycles to be true by using history as a marker. What is interesting
about these years is that they will all merge in 2006. These are
birthing points: 1966, 1988-9, 1997, and 2000. These themes are
intricately intertwined and due to reach a climax in 2006. The themes
are about civil rights, equality from the obvious inequalities,
and movements away from communist/monarchy rule for a freer more
democratic rule. This year is TRULY due to be an interesting time
for humankind, but a headache for world financial institutions.
1966. The themes to be looking for in 1966 would be around old
and outworn structures that do not fit the times any longer. Authorities
that take hits. Themes of structures that fall and give way to other
voices. Often times with this aspect, we will see the fight for
the rights of minority groups, but there seems to be the ever present
eyesores and heartache to bear. We have been dealing with this aspect
in 2005, as well. Condi Rice is a good example as first African
AND female American to become Secretary of State.
In 1966, there was a cry for equal rights. Martin Luther King
is at his height pushing for equality for the African American.
One hundred and ninety thousand American troops are under the draft
in Vietnam. Protesting and rioting is prevalent. Indira Ghandi pays
a visit to Washington, D.C. while Lyndon B. Johnson was president.
Twenty-thousand Buddhists march against the policies of the South
Vietnamese government because a date has not been set for free elections.
The United Nations adopts the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
pushing for the right to self determine and the right to own, trade
and dispose of an individuals property. There are anti-communist
demonstrations in Indonesia. The Baath Party takes power in
Syria via a coup d'etat. The Race Relations Boards and Shelter for
the homeless are established in Britain. Also, Vassar Committee
for Civil Rights holds a conference to explore what role that the
government can play in bringing economic and political changes that
allow more freedom for citizens. West Germany has purchased 2600
prisoners from East Germany. Soviet Writers Yuli Daniel and A. Singjavski
jailed for writing anti-Soviet literature. (nationmaster.com, 1966)
Mid 1966, Mao is in the midst of leading a cultural revolution
in China. He pushes for four important rights ---- speaking freely,
fully airing one's views, allowing great debates and written expression
of these views. Barbados becomes independent from the Queen of England.
A military Coup takes place in Upper Volta. Nigerian coup is overthrown
the prime minister is reported dead. There is a military coup in
Ghana. A coup in Central African Republic. United Kingdom seizes
all trade with Rhodesia as it's leadership declares themselves independent
from British rule.
1988-89
Between 1988-9 many 'walls' begin to crumble. The ideologies around
the world are challenged with some type of democratic resolution.
Peace treaties are on the table. Perceived pillars in our societies
begin to dissolve.
1988
1988. In 1988, South Korea held the Olympics for the first time.
It forced this closed country to open and a democratic revolution
begins to take place. The Soviets are pressured by The Geneva Agreement
to begin withdraw from Afghanistan. A cease-fire begins in the Iran-Iraq
War. Thousands of Africans riot in Algiers, Algeria against the
government. George Herbert Bush is elected president ("W"
is now our president. How appropriate for a historical climax!)
There is more Israeli-Palestinian conflict over the Palestinian
National Council meeting that formed the State of Palestine 253-46.
Netherlands is the second country to be connected to the internet.
The first prototype for the stealth bomber is revealed. The first
female Prime Minister of Pakistan is sworn in. There is the assassination
of Chico Mendes, Brazilian union and environmental activist. Pan
Am flight 103 is blown up by terrorists over Scotland. Osama establishes
Al Qaeda. Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart is busted visiting prostitutes.
Ronald Reagan announces his war on drugs. (nationmaster.com 1988)
1989
Tiananmen Square, China where the Chinese students unveil a statue
of the goddess of democracy that leads to a sit in protest and massacre
that is all caught on tape for the world to see communism in action.
The Chinese leader Zhao Ziyang is put on indefinite house arrest
for sympathizing with the students. Communist East Germany opens
various checkpoints in the Berlin Wall. The next day, celebrating
Germans begin to tear down the wall. The world watched. President
Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Gorbachev release statements that
the cold war is coming to an end. The fall of the Soviet Union has
left many countries to define themselves; like the Ukraine, Yugoslavia,
Tajikistan, Uzbekistan etc. The Czechoslovakian Velvet Revolution
sees the peaceful overthrow of the communist government. Romanians
communist regime ends. Brazil holds free elections. Chile holds
free elections. Cuban troops begin withdrawal from Angola. Bulgarian
Communist leader Todor Zhivkov is replaced by Petar Mladenov who
changes the party to Bulgarian Socialist Party. Jim Baker, television
evangelist is found guilty of embezzling 158 million dollars. Televangelist
Jimmy Swaggart is caught with prostitutes. Douglas Wilder is the
first African American governor in the United States. David Dinkins
becomes the first African American mayor of NYC. Margaret Rey develops
the Curious George Foundation to prevent cruelty to animals and
help creative children. Game Boy is released.
1997
The themes from 1997 are based on periods of boom as well as unrealistic
expectations. This period is marked by inflationary times. There
tends to be an obsession with believing in an ideal. Paranoia is
possible under this influence. It is a time where you will hear
or see differing political and religious opinions. It is also a
time when you can distort the facts. The film industry can go wild
with this energy.
In 1997, the internet stocks are soaring without a foundation.
After 30 years, Yasser Arafat returns to Hebron. He celebrates the
last handover of the last Israeli controlled city, West Bank. Bill
Clinton begins his second term. Madeline Albright is the first woman
to be secretary of state. Scientists in Scotland announce that a
sheep, Dolly, has been successfully cloned. Clinton bands human
cloning soon after Dolly is announced. Thirty-nine people from the
cult Heaven's Gate take their lives. They believed that taking cyanide
poison would get them on a spacecraft hiding behind a comet passing
earth. Iraq refuses to cooperate with weapons inspectors. Ramzi
Yousef is found guilty of masterminding the 1993 World Trade Center
Bombing. (wikipedia.com, 1997)
2000
History leaves it's tracks, papers are signed that change the current
direction of history. These papers are usually in the form of license,
acts, reform bills, laws, legislation, proposals etc. These times
speak of a major shift in orientation and focus in the world.
The United Nations holds Millennium Summit in N.Y.C. with over
180 world leaders present. Eight goals are set that include plans
to end poverty and hunger; achieve primary education; gender equality
and empower women; reduce child death; improve maternal health;
fight Aids and other diseases; create a secure environment; and
develop global partnerships. These will be key goals to watch in
2006.

An Astrologer's Call on 2006

Here's my call for 2006. It is impossible to cover all the international
highlights for 2006 in this article. I have chosen areas that I
believe will have key developments.
To begin with, the areas hit by the tsunami December 26, 2004
continue to indicate great undertakings and continued chaos. The
astrological data supports a destabilized region in 2006. The countries
that are showing these signs are Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand,
and Malaysia. It is likely the ripple of effect from the devastation
and loss of life that occurred during and after the tsunami is creating
more hardships for the people. There are certain to be more stories
coming out of these regions in 2006.
It would hardly be fair not to mention the United Nations, since
the years themes so embraces it's purpose. Certainly, the chart
of the United Nations is ignited in 2006. The themes and work to
be done to promote peace, democracy and human rights around the
worlds is a challenge, yet opportunities exist for great strides
to take place that support these themes on the political fronts
for many different regions in the world. There is no doubt that
other organizations whose existence is similar to the U.N. will
also hear their calling in 2006.
The continent of Africa continues to be a troubled continent.
There have been several eclipses that have hit the continent Africa
over the last decade. In English, the turmoil in this region is
reaching cataclysmic proportions. The results of years of civil
wars is spreading famine and disease to this part of the world at
a rate that cannot control itself. People are dying in inhumane
ways. In 2006, a humanitarian cry is likely to step in. This will
effect the world's economy.
One of the strongest areas due to be effected by civil rights
and a freer world is Sudan, one of the largest countries in Africa.
Sudan leaders are forced to take action in 2006. What is difficult
is that they are an angry and proud people. This is their identity.
Traditionally, the northern Arab- Islam influence have fought the
southern African tribes to the point of ethnic cleansing on both
sides. Egypt has tried to step in. The charts indicate that a powerful
female leader could make a world of change for this civil war torn
country. The United Nations is likely to step in. Astrological data
suggests that it would be easy for the nature of Sudan leadership
past and even present to hold supplies and money from the people.
Nevertheless, a foreign influence is due to step into this war torn
region and force change on the leadership in 2006. (Malec, G. 1982.)
Neighboring Chad is another area that is likely to be a focal
point for winter 2005 and fall 2006. Chad is one of the poorest
nations in Africa. Like Sudan, there Muslims dominate the North
and African tribes in the south. In 2004, 100,000 refugees fled
fighting in Sudan for Chad only to face hunger. There are so many
displaced Africans due to the genocide. Equally, 2006 will mark
significant milestones against the oppressed in Chad. (Malec, G.
1982.)
Other African countries that stand out in 2006 for democratic
change is Ivory Coast, Uganda, Angola, Niger, Central African Republic,
Benin. For example, the Central African Republic is due to have
it's first democratic elections in 2006. (wikipedia.com, 2005)
Israel faces more reality checks in 2006. Now, that the Palestinians
have a new leader, pressure will be put on them from outside entities
to share. They have always been a nation restricted in self expression,
this year the walls dividing them from the Arab world is likely
to be finished. The walls should say enough. United States and the
United Nations are likely to get involved. It is counter to the
democratic movements going on in the world in 2006.
Areas with higher than average terrorism for 2006 are Brazil,
Ireland, England, Portugal, northwest African coast, Iran, Afghanistan,
and Pakistan. Brazil's leadership is undermined. Oil and natural
resources are issues. Peru, Costa Rica, Grenada, Equador, Bolivia
are all due for their share of stories. Mexico leader, Vicente Fox,
has held a vision for his people for sometime. This vision has included
the United States open borders with Mexico at a time when U.S. faces
terrorism. Illegal immigrants have a voice in 2006.
North Korea outside pressure to change. Weak and vulnerable
borders. Foreign and neighboring goals are penetrating their boundaries.
This is not a good time for North Korea. It is quite possible that
the Bush administration keeps quiet on their defense and war plans
for North Korea until winter months at the end of 2005, beginning
of 2006. We have yet to hear the finale on the draft, currently
coined HR163. The charts for South Korea are showing more patriotism.
These two countries share thousands of years of history until United
States and the former Soviet Union divided these two nations during
the Korean War.
Chinas leadership faces limitation in 2006. Will trade
relations between U.S. and China change? Will the memories of the
recently deceased democratic sympathizer Zhao Ziyang create a movement
of civil unrest for communist leaders? His death is likely to create
momentum toward democracy given the astrological signatures for
China. Financial wars with United States look imminent.
This is a key year for changes in monarchies and long term rule.
Great Britain stands out. Queen Elizabeth and the crown are key
words. The religious long term rule of the papacy stands out. Will
we be seeing a new world pope?
Finally, it is important to say that 2006 will undoubtedly uncover
stories of weakness in structures that we have considered a reality,
a fact of life. We are likely to see a year of protests for rights
of humanity. Religious overtones and opinions are strong. The movie
industry may find that this is a great time to record history. Financial
institutions around the world struggle with the drive for a freer
world. Heartaches and eyesores continue. Stories of the oppressed
emerge. These are inflationary times. There will be positive historical
acts from governments. The old walls are dissolving. Of course,
it all costs in order to make change. By the end of 2006, we will
undoubtedly have answers to the question, How far have we
come in the fight for human rights and democracy around the world?

About the Author
Carrie Lever is a career astrologer with over twenty-five years
of experience. She is certified through N.C.G.R., and holds a master's
in marriage and family therapy. She has taught Astrology at Montgomery
Community College for four years. She began political astrology
as a way of advertising to her clientele. Out of all her forecasts,
perhaps one stands out the most. After researching the bombing of
the USS Cole in 2000, she became convinced that bin Laden would
attack stateside. In December of 2000, she contacted the Panel for
Domestic Terrorism. After sending a letter, e-mails, and phone messages,
it became clear that astrology had no voice. She did not give up.
In July, she wrote a research article on the World Trade Center
Bombing of 1993 because the pattern was the same for 2001. She sent
it to TRC@terrorism.org-making it clear that bin Laden was busy
again. It was a hidden, backdoor article (not available to the public)
and was viewed eleven times. Nobody ever contacted her. On her Web
site, www.anastrologersperspective.com, she gave September 8 and
the 18 as terror time frames. All is documented online.
